I don’t know why I thought of you today but, this must have been the reason so sorry to find this out , you were always nice to me when I met you and your buddies at the Barbary Coast in Las Vegas because I was a Chicago girl , my condolences to your family which you always spoke so highly of. As kids we grew up watching our Dad play ball at places like Mansfield Park and Harrer Park. Memories that will last a lifetime. As tribute to our Dad, we have set up a Memorial Fund in concert with the Morton Grove Park District to ensure more softball and baseball kids memories for generations to come.

Jimmy was a gentleman. He embodied everything you want to see in a lawyer. He was smart, kind, and overall a “good egg.” I felt like I was hit by a bus when I heard he passed. May his memory be a blessing!

I meet Carol, and then Jimmy about 45 years ago selling Carol cars.
I remember the banter like it was yesterday.
Such a kind, and warm couple.
My thoughts are with your family.

I will miss having coffee with my friend Jim. One morning I was talking about a restaurant that I really liked and he spoke up and said “ My wife snd I go there all the time”. From that day on about five years ago he would sit snd join our breakfast club. Always nice to talk with him. He will be missed RIP. jim

We played 16 inch softball together for well over 25 years . Jimmy was an excellent short stop and in spite of having one of the ugliest swings I ever saw he was one of the most reliable hitters ; especially in clutch situations!
More than that Jimmy was a good friend. I called upon him often for advice and he was always there when anyone needed help.
He will be missed by all who knew him .
Rest In Peace Jimmy.

Jimmy will be missed. He was more an opponent of mine, than a teammate, but we shared the love of the game. I always enjoyed playing against Jimmy, and had deep respect for him as a player and a man.

Very very sad to hear of Jim’s passing. I just read it in the Tribune this morning. I knew him from the Dunkin at Elston Cicero where he stopped for coffee all the time. We struck up a conversation one day and became fast friends. Really going to miss him .

Jimmy was nice to me on the occasions when we met through Carol’s Cubs fandom. Hearing Carol talk about him, especially recently, reminded me of their special marriage.
Please accept my deep, sincere sympathy to Carol and the family at this most difficult time.

We treasure the times we spent together. We will always remember the pride that Jimmy took in his family; each of your accomplishments gave him so much joy. He always made us smile with his incredible wealth of information about sports and memories about people. We loved our conversations and valued his insights, especially since we were always on the same side of the issues. We are heartbroken and will miss him so very much.

He was my cousin Danny Coval’s pledge father and through baseball softball and business he was a very dear dear friend almost all of my life. Jimmy would be so proud of Carol, Todd & Julie who spoke so eloquently about his life as a loving husband, father, friend and fierce advocate to so many. We were so lucky to have you as our neighbor for close to 40 years and will always miss your presence on our quiet street. Jimmy has left us too soon and we send our love and condolences to all who cherished him.

Jimmy was one of the best poker players I’ve known but more than that he was great to be in a game with. He treated everybody with dignity and kindness. In the last game I played with Jimmy he had a diamond straight flush. I took a picture of him in which he had a grin like a kid at a birthday party. He always brought us up to date about his family. Jimmy was old school. He loved Carol, his family, poker, softball, the Law, friends…. he loved Life. He will be missed. Cannot say enough about what a truly great man he was. God Bless. RIP my friend.

Having played with Jimmy for almost 50 years, AJR…Fred Kier & Associates.. many 12-inch
West-coast Advertising Agency league “World-Series” tournaments, and most recently, the OVER 60 “Oldies but Goodies” team, I was truly privileged to not only know him as a teammate, but a good friend. May he rest in peace and leave the roster open when we join him.

In all the years I knew Jimmy, never saw him angry…with one exception. As a coach of one of his many softball teams, I dared to not put him in the starting lineup for one game. Seemed like the right thing to do at the time but I vowed to never do that again. All he ever did was swing that ugly old wood bat at balls over his head and tomahawk line drives to the outfield…constantly, and constantly amazing. Now watching him run the bases with his head thrown back and veins bursting in his neck like he was running in chest-deep water…that was a whole different story.
From our whole family, “thank you” Jimmy, for your friendship and guidance through some challenging times.

I have known Jim since we were neighbors in West Rogers Park and classmates in third grade at Boone School and thereafter through graduation from Senn High. Jim was always a good and loyal friend to his vast number of friends , a terrific sportsman and sports fan, and an amazingly smart and interesting person. He was always fun to be with. To me, he was an “iron man”; I can’t believe he’s gone. He will never be forgotten by anyone who was privileged to know him.

Carol said it best; ”… losing a life’s partner”. I too have lost a friend of the past 70 years. He will be remembered forever. His smile, his wit and his genuine concern for his fellow man. Rest in peace and watch over us like you always have.
